Annual Meeting this Saturday March 18th at Noon

One more thing…Last year’s dues combined with a T-Shirt purchase was a success. (Buy a WKCA t-shirt for $20 and approximately $10 goes towards membership).  We raised over $500, which is significantly more than we typically collect in annual dues PLUS it promotes the community AND you get a nifty t-shirt to wear all year.  We are going to be doing the same thing this year with some minor changes to the design/color and quality of t-shirt.  Currently I have gray/black logo as ONE option (see below) and will try and get another color t-shirt if I can.  Feel free to reply with suggestions.  I will use this as a poll and decide by Saturday.  If you are happy with Gray/Black then go ahead and order right away.  Screen Shot 2017-03-16 at 1.35.49 PM

WKCA KALUA PIG IMU POTLUCK PARTY

Mark your calendar for the  the 3rd weekend of July at Kaiwiki Pavilion. (July 15, 16, 17)

Day 1 (July 15) Clean and prep the pit. Get Wood Ready (email/call/text me if you can help)
Day 2 (July 16) Morning – Light Fire, Afternoon – put in Food.
Day 3 (July 17) Late Morning – Prepare Pavilion, Afternoon – Eat

We are going to do our best to make this a green event – meaning please bring your own utensils. Bring what ever you would like to cook in the Imu on Saturday Afternoon between 12:00 and 1:00pm. The food will be cooked overnight and pulled out on Sunday. If you’d like to help out any of the 3 days email me so that I have an idea who to expect. The WKCA will be providing Kalua Pork, and soft drinks /water. Folks can bring complimenting sides ‘n other entrees, appetizers, salads, dessert etc.

2nd Chance T-Shirt/Membership Campaign

Wainaku Kaiwiki Community Association T-Shirt/Membership Campaign

The goal is to create a neighborhood presence, raise funds (for christmas party, pavilion repairs, speed limit signs, etc) and try something new and fun.   The option to pay for membership dues the usual way still exists.  Contact Janice Reddick, Treasurer for more information gfjrbarr@mac.com .

A couple improvements about this shirt. First, we are using a better quality shirt that is pre-shrunk.  Second, the logo is a little lighter, so that you donʻt feel it on hot summer days. Third, there is a logo on the front left side.

Kaiwiki News

Thank you for all that supported the T-Shirt Membership Campaign.  We sold 39 shirts and raised $63.18 in additional donations (Thank you Beverly Fuller, Gail Marshall, Joseph Withers, and Kitty Heacox for your generous donations), resulting in the Grand Total Raised amount of $529.08! That will go a long way.  I am told that orders will ship no later than 5/5/2016. For those who opted to have the shirts delivered to me, I will send out an email when they arrive and make pick up/drop off arrangements.

There is some momentum forming around how we can preserve and improve the Park & Pavilion.  Please email Torrey at  torrey_lynch@mac.com if you have an interest in this topic.

Also, The Hawaii County Planning Dept. has been having public meetings on the Hamakua CDP. If you have not attended and would like to provide input, the draft is available online. ANNUAL MEETING MINUTES

The meeting was called to order by President John Lawler at 1:00 P. M. on Saturday, March 20, 2016.

John Lawler presented his suggestion for Wainaku-Kaiwiki Community Association T-shirts. T-shirts can be purchased on line for $20, with the association getting $10. It will be necessary for 20 T-shirts to sell for the association to get $10 each. Anyone buying a shirt will be credited with paying the annual Association dues. From the start of the sales period, the group has about 25 days to buy the shirts. The group expressed support for the idea, and for a T-shirt with the design on the back. White Print on Lime Green or Purple cotton shirt. When the group present was asked how many shirts they would buy, about 20 shirts were spoken for. CLICK HERE to order.back

 

John displayed “25 MPH” signs, which residents can place on stakes, etc., on their property. The idea was popular, and most of the signs were handed out. There are a few signs left over so you may email John if you would like one. JRL@JohnRLawler.com85x11_postcard-2

 

A discussion of improvements to the Upper Kaiwiki Park pavilion took place. There are several sources of financial assistance in repairing the pavilion; John will keep the membership informed.

Gary Barr discussed efforts to improve Internet access on Upper Kaiwiki. He distributed a handout with things that individuals can do to help pressure Hawaiian Telcom to improve Internet speed. A petition is being circulated; all residents are urged to sign.

Susan O’Neill announced a coffee hour for Harry Kim, applicant for Mayor, to be held at 2390 Kaiwiki Road on April 8, from 7:00 to 8:30 P. M.

Cindy Inoue stressed the importance of having regular representation at the Rural South Hilo Community Association meetings. Gary Barr volunteered to attend the next meeting. The Board will designate one of their members to be a regular representative to the RSHCA.

A new ad hoc committee was created for dealing with road issues such as tree hazards, erosion etc.  Charlie Pavao and Tony Fererra will be pioneering this committee.
