Kaiwiki Park Improvements

There is a renewed and energetic effort to realize improvements for Kaiwiki Park. The pavilion is in sore need of renovation and the park is lacking facilities for children and families. A group of neighbors has met with Councilwoman Valerie Poindexter and park representatives to discuss steps to move forward on this long overdue project. Valerie is very supportive of park improvements and with her guidance we have set up a meeting with the Mayor. To this end, we will be canvassing the community to collect signatures to present to the Mayor. We would very much appreciate your signature to demonstrate that there is a need at Kaiwiki Park that is widely supported by the community.

The text of the petition is as follows:

Kaiwiki Park is a valuable resource for the Wainaku Kaiwiki community. The pavilion is a critical asset to the park as it provides restrooms, shade, shelter, water, and electricity for park guests. Additionally, residents of upper Kaiwiki (above Maile bridge) need the Kaiwiki Park pavilion as a centrally located place to gather and organize in the event of an emergency or natural disaster. The Wainaku Kaiwiki Community Association, along with community volunteers, have worked over the years to maintain and preserve the structure, but are no longer able to do so adequately due to extensive termite damage, rust, and outdated facilities. Please sign this petition to show your support for the renovation and maintenance of the Kaiwiki Park pavilion. This petition will be presented to Mayor Harry Kim in the hope that the county will meaningfully address this issue and preserve the pavilion.
